Various aspects of the demand for, and the supply and characteristics of these services are discussed, since an understanding of these topics is essential to rational planning.
Chapter I examines the relative importance of the influences of health care services, socio-economic structures and life. The use of a psychiatric case register for research is re- ported and rates of 1-day prevalence, 1-year admissions and 1-year prevalence are presented from 4 register areas in the U.S.
